Report of the UMYF Task Force

To date, the Volunteer Task Force for the United Methodist Youth Fellowship has had two very productive meetings, most recently on July 11th. While the participation has been consistent and enthusiastic, there is always room for more.

If you are the parent or grandparent of a youth, 6th through 12th grades, you should be there. If you are a youth in this age category, you should be there. If you have an interest in the growth of this age-group and feel that you could contribute to this growth, you should be there. No one is shut out. Every one of our meetings for both Task Forces has been announced multiple times in this sanctuary and through other church communications.

After our initial meetings the strong consensus of the UMYF task force group is that new, paid staff should be employed as Co-Directors of the Youth Ministries to coordinate the Fall Kick-off of UMYF. The Task Force has two major points of emphasis:

  1. The Co-Directors should consist of both a male and female co-leader. They need not be a couple or spouses, as has sometimes been the case.
  2. The congregation and those participating in the UMYF program, including the Co-Directors themselves, should understand that the Co-Directors' roles are to provide leadership and coordinate the visions of multiple volunteers, both among the youth themselves and other adult volunteers. UMYF must be a collaborative effort incorporating the gifts and graces of the entire church to "celebrate, connect and serve Christ from the heart of Casper."
